All Ireland Intermediate Hurling Final

Kilkenny 0-16  Cork  2-23

The Kilkenny Intermediate team suffered defeat in the attempt to win back to back All Ireland titles losing to Cork in the final player in Fraher Field, Dungarvan today.

The first half was evenly contested but the concession of a goal by the Kilkenny defence and the failure to register a similar score themselves when the opportunity arose meant they went into the interval losing by 1-8 tp 0-9. Cork were much stronger on the resumption and backed by the wind pulled clear with a succession of points. Kilkenny battled bravely but could not pull the difference back and a second Cork goal and a strong finish ensured a big margin at the finish for the Leesiders. Kilkenny will be disappointed to lose but in reality to win Leinster and reach the All Ireland again with a completely new team was as much if not more than could be expected.
The focus now turns to Croke Park and the Senior and Minor finals on Sunday next.
