Tullaroan 4-12 Graignamanagh 2-7 Tedcastle Oils Roinn C Final
Tullaroan 4-12 Graignamanagh/Skeoughvosteen 2-7
The
Tedcastle Oils Roinn C decider saw two previously unbeaten teams go
head to head. Tullaroan had won the northern section of the league, and
Graignamanagh/ Skeoughvosteen had won the south without either side
losing a game.In the end the title went to the northern champions and
there was no doubting the merit of their victory. They led from start
to finish and hard though the Graig lads tried, they could never quite
get on terms. Tullaroan set about their task from the throw in with
points from Bill Cuddihy and John Walton giving them an early lead.
Graig goaie Patrick Nolan made a great save to deny Tullaroan but he
had no chance when Bill Cuddihy soloed through and buried the sliotar
in the sixth minute. Graignamanagh got off the mark with a point from a
free by Sean Cahill but Tullaroan hit back with two points.A quickly
taken free gave Bill Cuddihy a point scoring opportunity and he made no
mistake and John Walton pointed from a free in the thirteenth minute.
Graignamanagh dug deep and Jamie Dunne scored a great point to rally
his side. Tullaroan hit back quickly with four points; two frees from
John Walton and two from play from Jason O' Riordan. Just before half
time Graignamanagh were handed a lifeline when Jamie Byrne's shot went
all the way to the net. Tullaroan led by 1-8 to 1-2 at half time.
Graignamanagh/Skeoughvosteen came out in determined fashion in the
second half and after great work by Jamie Byrne Sean Cahill finished
the sliotar to the net. The gap was now down to a single score and it
was all to play for. John Walton steadied the ship for Tullaroan with
an excellent point from a free. Graig' responded and Jamie Byrne took
on the Tullaroan defence and scored an excellent point. Another
quickly taken free saw the unmarked Jason O'Riordan slot over another
point for Tullaroan. The southerners response was swift with a point
from a '65 by Sean Cahill. John Walton again demonstrated his free
taking prowess with a fine effort for Tullaroan..Within a minute Jamie
Byrne scored another excellent point for Graignamanagh. Tullaroan went
on the attack immediately and a goal from Martin Keoghan saw them
stretch their lead. Within a minute Graignamanagh replied with a
pointed free from Sean Cahill. Then came the turning point. A two goal
salvo from Bill Gaffney shot Tullaroan into a commanding lead and they
never looked back. Graignamanagh never stopped trying and Jamie Byrne
scored another fine point but Tullaroan had the final score when John
Walton pointed just before the end. Tullaroan were worthy champions and
had an excellent centre back in Jack Keoghan. Liam Teehan and Jason
O'Riordan hurled well at midfield while up front they had excellent
players in John Walton and Bill Cuddihy. Graignamanagh/Skeoughvosteen
had an excellent goalie in Patrick Nolan. Edward Murphy was outstanding
at full back. Martin Kelly and Jordan Brett worked tirelessly at
midfield. Sean Cahill, Jamie Dunne and the excellent Jamie Byrne hurled
well in attack.
