Dicksboro captured the first ever U-15 Duggan Steel Roinn A Hurling Championship final where a dazzzling display of attacking hurling saw them overcome a plucky Thomastown side at a well appointed Danesfort. The opening quarter proved to be a tight affair with Naoise Dempsey getting Thomastown off to a flying start with a superb point after a solo run.

Nick Doheny responded with a pointed free but he was soon to show a touch of class. Latching onto a clearance from Rory O'Connor, Doheny brought his marker out to the side on a solo run before a sweet finish to the bottom right hand corner saw the green flag waving. Dempsey fired over a pointed free with Doheny getting one of his own. Harry Shine grabbed his first point of the evening after fine play by the influential Doheny. Dempsey and Doheny again swapped frees to leave the St Canice's men up 1-4 to 0-3 at the end of the first quarter.

Shine & Charlie Delahunty fired over points in quick succession before Dempsey converted a free which was to be Thomastown's last score of the half as ill discipline was costing them at this stage. Sean Maher & Cillian Hackett finished off the scoring with a point a piece to leave Dicksboro 1-8 to 0-4 up at the break. Dicksboro got a lighting start to the second half which really finished the game as a contest with Sean Maher pilfering a point before Vinny Roberts scored a fire cracker of a goal after a long delivery from Timmy Clifford.

Dempsey briefly lifted siege with a pointed free but the enventual winners kept their foot on the pedal with Doheny & Ward grabbing a point a piece before Doheny's deft flick on the edge set the roof of the net rippling. In truth this is a special Dicksboro team that conquered all before them last year both in Kilkenny & in all Ireland.

Their attacking play was sweet to watch and with Doheny they had fine performers in Timmy Clifford & Rory O'Connor to name but a few as this was the ultimate emphimy of a team performance. Thomastown to their credit tried to the end and can take solace in some of the fine performances they had in getting to the final.
