The Kilkenny Development squads have only really kicked into action in the last two weeks or so but the Celtic Challenge teams have being busy of late. These teams are compromised of 48 players divided between teams black & amber and are non exam players. Kilkenny have one game to go for each side in the competition with Kilkenny Amber playing Waterford tonight (Wednesday) at 7.30pm whilst Kilkenny Black are away to Cork in Bushy Park. Game time and player development is the core reason behind this competition with the county Minor management team keeping an eye on players progress.
Kilkenny U-14’s spread the gospel of hurling
The Kilkenny U-14’s continued the tradition of traveling to Antrim in early May to participate in two challenge matches with over 40 players representing their clubs.
U-9 Black & Amber Series
We all remember the scenes from the tv series Kilnascully of the team speech to the young underage team and in fairness to Brian, PJ & Sean involved in the Kilkenny GAA Coaching department they have come up with a fantastic idea in the guise of the black and amber series.
The U9 "Black and Amber" series is only for 5 weeks, clubs run their own blitzes after that window ... it works in terms of mixing children, no subs, and children hurling away freely, once the sliotar is thrown in coaches/parents can relax and offer loads of encouragement at the skill levels of the young player. Overall nearly 600 children will be out enjoying hurling on Saturday 8th June and it could not happen without our dedicated coaches and parents who take time to bring the childen to these "Black and Amber" Series Go Games Centres ( Host GAA Clubs) around the county.(balance of pics is of club teams participating).
