Muckalee captured the J.J. Kavanagh & Sons Kilkenny Senior Football title when they defeated last year’s champions Glenmore by 1-10 to 1-7 in the final played under lights in Mooncoin on Friday night. The north Kilkenny team recovered from conceding an early goal after five minutes to Paul Phelan and thanks to a goal of their own from Robert Shore and some good points particularly from Shane Coonan they led at the interval by 1-6 to 1-1. With their half back line in control Muckalee continued to dominate on the restart and by the third quarter had extended their lead to seven points 1-9 to 1-2. Glenmore played their best football of the game in the last quarter and reduced the deficit to three points thanks to scores from Paul Phelan, Michael Phelan and Paddy Mullally. However Muckalee held out for what was on balance a deserved victory. Well done to the Mooncoin club who had everything in good order parking, stewarding, pitch and facilities for the good crowd which attended and to referee John Guinan who was always in control while letting the game flow.
