Martin McDonald was the first ever on-line Jackpot winner when his selection of numbers took the top prize of €6,350 in the County Board weekly lotto draw on Tuesday evening. Formerly of Emill, Clonmore, Mooncoin Martin who is retired with now resides in Dublin and recieved his news by means of an automatic email that is sent to all online players after each draw. It was his second online win having received a match three cheque for €70 previously. A former student of St. Kieran’s College he left Mooncoin the year before before their senior hurling championship win of 1965 when they defeated the holders Bennetsbridge by 2-8 to 1-8. Martin was and was once Chairman of St. Matthews’s football club in Donegal when he worked in the County. In Mooncoin he has strong connections with the game where his late brother Wattie who played left half back for Mooncoin was on the 1966 All Ireland final panel when Kilkenny went down to Cork. The McDonald family are proud holders of an All Ireland medal after Martins father Mark was the goalkeeper on the 1922 county side that defeated Tipperary 4-2 to 2-6 in the final. In the victorious 1922 photo in the Gallery section of this site Martin noted a Miss Gorey seated in the team photo and was interested to know if anyone had further details on the club or area of the county she was from. A keen Kilkenny supporter Martin keeps a strong interest in the county side and the progress of the injuries to the key players in the build up to this years championship.
