Almost seven thousand supporters braved the elements in Nowlan Park yesterday and witnessed both the St. Canice’s Credit Union senior hurling championship final and the Kilkenny Citreon Centre minor hurling A championship final finish all square. The players in both games deserve great credit for the hurling they produced and the sportsmanship they exhibited in very poor weather conditions. The final score in the minor game was Bennettsbridge 0-10 Thomastown 0-10 while the tally in the senior game was James Stephens 1-8 Ballyhale Shamrocks 0-11. The Bennettsbridge team of the 1960’s enjoyed a great day as guests of the County Board and Springhill Court Hotel while the winner of the €5000 first prize in the Hurlers Holiday Fund Draw was Jim Dermody c/o Gerry Murphy of the Blacks & Whites GAA Club.
Both finals will be replayed on Sunday 30th October in Nowlan Park. Domonic Connolly will referee the minor replay beginning at 12.45pm while Eamon Mansfield will take charge of the senior replay scheduled for 2.45pm.
