Barrow Rangers and Lisdowney clash in the Highlight of the Junior quarter-final ties

By Mary Morgan Wed 10th Oct

The last of the J.J. Kavanagh & Sons Junior Hurling Championship Quarter-Finals will see Barrow Rangers take on Lisdowney in Canon Kearns Memorial Park, Castlecomer, on Sunday, Oct. 14th, at 1 p.m. It should be the highlight of the quarter-final ties with 2010 finalists, Barrow Rangers, endeavouring to get the better of the current Northern Junior Championship & All-County Junior Hurling League winners, Lisdowney. On recent form the latter will be favourites to land the remaining coveted semi- final place. However, this is could be a right battle for supremacy with Richie Doyle(B/R) facing Rory Hickey (Capt. L) and Cathal Kenny (Capt. B/R) taking on Pat O’Carroll(L) and add in two former inter-county stars, Charlie Carter (Lisdowney) & P.J. Ryan(Barrow Rangers), using their management skills to gain advantage on the line. These should be a few of the many intriguing contests to be fought throughout the field. Three points separated the sides last year in the 1st round. Both teams, Lisdowney & Barrow Rangers, had a margin of three points to spare in their first round games this year over Kilmacow & Galmoy respectively and whoever wins will be fancying their chances of ultimate honours. The prediction is for a narrow Lisdowney victory to join Bennettsbridge, O’Loughlin Gaels and Thomastown in a formidable semi-final line-up. Referee: Thomas Duggan, Mullinavat.
