Kilkenny footballers will not take part in the 2013 Football League but will instead play in a redrawn British championship next summer The move is seen as a positive one the most sensible following a succession of disappointing results. The decision received unanimous approval at Monday night’s Kilkenny County Board meeting. The GAA has approved the move to Britain, which will see Kilkenny play teams from London and other parts of England and Scotland in a redrawn British championship next summer.
The competition is being run off along the lines of the Christy Ring Cup and the winners will gain entry to the All-Ireland junior championship. Therefore Kilkenny will not take part in the Leinster Junior Football Championship in 2013 and have also withdrawn from the Leinster under 21 championship for 2013. Kilkenny will travel to Britain for all their games next June.
