Kilkenny Players Win World Handball Championships

William Love(Clogh) became the first Kilkenny World Handball Champion of 2012 when he defeated Brendan Burke(Kells) in the Mens C Final played in Citywest yesterday. Ducksy Walsh(Talbots Inch) added a second title for Kilkenny when he defeated Christopher Watkins(U.S.A.) in the Masters Singles Final. All three were presented with their World Championships Medals by the incoming President of the World Handball Council – Con Moore(Kilkenny) who has taken over the role of President from Pat Brennan(Canada).In Mens A Doubles, Patrick and Peter Funchion(Kells) advanced to the Quarter Finals. In Mens B Doubles, Ciarán Neary(Talbots Inch) and Micheál O’Brien(Crinkle), Ger McGrath(Kells) and James Gregan(Coolboy) progressed to the 2nd round. In Mens C Doubles, Anthony Martin(Kells) and James Hennessy(O’Loughlins), Andrew Lawlor and Brendan Hosey(Clogh) and William Love and Eoghan Hennessy(Clogh) all went through to the 3rd round. In Emerald Masters Doubles, Johnny Brennan(Mothel) and Joe Hennessy(O’Loughlins) advanced to the Quarter Finals. In Boys 11& Under Doubles, Kyle Dunne and Billy O’Neill(Clogh) got through to the 2nd round.  In Girls 13 & Under Doubles, Aoife Holden and Dearbhail O’Keeffe(Kilfane) won their 2ndround game. Also in action today will be Jamie Maher and Jack Buggy and James Love and Michael Doyle(Clogh) in Boys 11 & Under, Róisín O’Keeffe(Kilfane) and Edel Mulholland(O’Loughlins) in Girls 11 & Under Doubles, Shane Dunne and Ciaran Cooney(Clogh),  Eoin Regan and Aidan Barry(Clogh), Conor Murphy(Kells) and Todd Hynes(Wexford) in Boys 13 & Under Doubles, Pádraig Cooney(Clogh) and Seán Carey(Goresbridge), Marc Purcell(Clogh) and Dion Bourke(Mothel) in Boys 15 & Under Doubles, J.J. English(Goresbridge) and Brian Mahon(Clogh) in Boys 17 & Under Doubles, Mary Phelan and Ciara Mahon(Clogh) in Ladies A Doubles and Denise Love and Ashling Maher(Clogh) in Ladies B Doubles, Tom O’Keeffe and Tom Dooley(Kilfane) in Masters B Doubles, Pat Funchion and Paddy Fennelly(Kells) in Golden Master B Doubles.Thanks to KCLR for this information.
