Rower Inistioge 1-16 Kilnadeema-Leitrim 1-9
The Rower Inistioge followed in the footsteps of Clara by claiming the AIB All Ireland Intermediate Club title at a wet and cold Croke Park on Saturday evening with an extra time win over a brave Kilnadeema-Leitrim side. In very difficult playing conditions The Rower held a narrow 0-4 to 0-3 half time lead. A somewhat fortuitous Ciaran Ryan goal early in the second half gave the Kilkenny side the edge but this was cancelled out by a Kilnadeema goal half way through the second half. From there on in it was nip and tuck and it was no surprise the sides finished level after 60 minutes 1-8 each. The first period of extra time saw little change with the Rower Inistioge still a point ahead facing in to final 10 minutes(1-10 to 1-9). The Inistioge side jumped in to a 3 point lead but with a minute remaining the Galway side had a go from a 20 metre free to level the game again. This was saved and four unanswered points in the final 2 minutes saw the Kilkenny side home. For photos from the game, courtesy Willie Dempsey, click HERE.
