Railyard and Muckalee To Do It All Again
Railyard 1-5 Muckalee 0-8
Railyard and Muckalee played out an exciting draw in the JJ Kavanagh and Sons Senior Football Final in Nowlan Park on Saturday evening. Muckalee played with a strong wind blowing into the O’Loughlin’s end in the first half but both sides found it difficult to cope and scores were at a premium. Railyard had the better of the opening quarter but a 0-1 to 0-1 scoreline did not reflect their superiority at this stage. Muckalee grew into the game and points from Joe Maher, Eoin Mc Grath(2) and Colin Mc Grath gave them a deserved 0-5 to 0-3 lead at the break.
With the wind at their backs one fancied the Railyard side to take the title especially when they had reduced the lead to just one point within a minute of the restart. John Maher and Caleb Roche exchanged pointed frees in the 33rd and 35th minute. Railyard got a great boost in the 40th minute when a long range free from Caleb Roche was spilled by the Muckalee goalie into his own net (Muckalee 0-6 Railyard 1-5). It took another 15 minutes for the next score – a Colin Mc Grath free to put just one point between the sides with just 5 minutes remaining. The same player levelled matters a minute later with another free and despite efforts from both sets of forwards neither could find the illusive winner.
So it is on to a replay to decide the 2015 champions.
