St Canices Credit Union Senior Hurling League

Group A

Table toppers Ballyhale Shamrocks and O’Loughlin Gaels, who are both on 6 points, meet in Thomastown. Both teams are assured of an automatic quarter-final place as they both have wins over Erins Own and Mullinavat who currently occupy 3rd and 4th positions on 4 points. These two meet in Tom Ryall Park and again both will remain in 3rd and 4th positions as they have wins over both Clara and Danesfort who hold the bottom two positions in the Group on 2 points. Clara and Danesfort meet in Freshford but their position in the group will be unchanged. For this group it is all about momentum as they prepare for the first round knock-out encounters on the following weekend.

Group B

Table toppers Dicksboro on 6 points are assured of a quarter-final place. They meet Rower Inistioge, who are on 3 points, in Gowran. The Rower Inistioge can jump into 4th place with a win depending if Fenians have a win over Bennettsbridge in the 3rd game in the Group. James Stephens and St Martins are both on 5 points and battle it out in Ballyragget for the 2nd quarter-final place. The loser here is assured of 3rd or 4th place and out of the relegation zone. In the event of a draw in this game Dicksboro would need to be defeated by 13 points to enable both James Stephens and St Martins attain the two quarter-final spots. The crucial game in this group is the meeting of Fenians and Bennettsbridge in Tullaroan. A win for the Bridge is likely to see them out of the bottom two. However, a Fenians win, combined with a loss for Rower Inistioge would see them leapfrog into 4th place. All to play for!

Michael Lyng Motors Intermediate League

Group A

With four teams on 4 points this group is wide open. Table toppers Carrickshock on 6 points are odds on to claim an automatic quarter-final spot. They play St Lachtains who are on 4 points in John Locke Park. It is likely that scoring difference will come into play in this group as the likely outcome is that a number of teams will end up on the same points. Carrickshock have a points difference of + 15 heading into Saturdays’s games and this is 10 points ahead of their nearest rivals. Tullogher Rosbercon and Thomastown are both on 4 points and meet in Inistioge. Winners here will avoid the bottom two “relegation” positions. Bottom team Lisdowney on 2 points meet Dunnamaggin, who are on 4 points in Palmerstown. A win for Lisdowney could see them move out of the bottom two as they have one of the better scoring differences on +1. St Lachtains, with a score difference of -12, really need a win over Carrickshock in John Locke Park to avoid the relegation zone. However a draw in any of the games could change the complexion completely.

Group B

Tullaroan on 8 points are the only undefeated team in either senior or intermediate and have already qualified for the quarter-final. They play St Patricks in Johnstown on Saturday. At the other end of the table Conahy Shamrocks are pointless and will be looking for a morale boosting win over Graigue Ballycallan as they look forward to the knock-out stages two weeks later. Glenmore on 6 points, who play Young Irelands in Dr Tierney Park, will take the 2nd quarter-final place as they have the better head to head over Graigue Ballycallan and St Patricks. and also have a much superior scoring difference. Young Irelands look destined to occupy 5th position even with a win in their final game.

J J Kavanagh and Sons Junior Hurling League

Section A – Group A

Emeralds, Mooncoin and John Lockes are all on 6 points going into the final round. Unlike the senior and intermediate there is no progression to quarter-finals. Teams are jockeying for position as top meets bottom etc in the opposite group. Emeralds host John Lockes in Urlingford on Sunday morning. Winner here will probably top the group. Mooncoin travel to Tom Walsh Park to play Blacks and Whites but Mooncoin are assured of at least 3rd place in the group as they are three points ahead of their rivals. In the remaining game Cloneen travel to Kilmacow in the hope of registering their first win in the competition. This is all about momentum and morale as clubs get ready for the knockout stages a week later.

Section A – Group B

The situation in Group B is very much like Group A with 3 teams – Barrow Rangers, Slieverue and Graignamanagh – all on 6 points well ahead of their nearest rivals. Piltown(2) entertain Windgap(2) in the battle of the bottom two. Second place Slieverue(6) host Galmoy(2) while Graignamanagh and Barrow Rangers meet in a top to the table clash. As in Group A this is all about getting that important morale boosting win ahead of the first round on the following weekend.
