Intriguing Final Rounds in Senior and Intermediate Leagues

By Mary Morgan Tue 15th Aug

St Canices Credit Union SHL – Group A

O’Loughlin Gaels (7) v Erins Own (5) – Jenkinstown

Carrickshock (5) v Mullinavat (4) – Piltown

Rower Inistioge (3) v St Martins (0) – Gowran

O’Loughlin Gaels are in poll position in this group and, with a scoring difference of +33, even a loss in their final game with Erins Own is unlikely to deprive them of a top two finish in this group and an automatic quarter-final spot. The only other certainty here is that St Martins, who are pointless to date, will prop up the table. The other 4 teams – Erins Own (5), Carrickshock (5), Mullinavat (4) and Rower Inistioge (3) have it all to play for and scoring difference may well come in to play to sort out the positions especially considering Rower Inistioge have had three draws in their campaign. The twitter machine will be in overdrive in this group on Tuesday evening.

St Canices Credit Union SHL – Group B

Danesfort (3) v James Stephens (2) – Tom Ryall Park

Bennettsbridge (2) v Ballyhale Shamrocks (3) – John Locke Park

Clara (6) v Dicksboro (8) – Thomastown

Clara and Dicksboro play for bragging rights in Thomastown as both are assured of automatic quarter-final positions. But the rest of the table is extremely interesting with just one point separating the other four. It will be a case of “winner takes all” in the remaining games as teams try to avoid the dreaded 5th and 6th “Relegation” positions in the table.  Bennettsbridge (2) will be attempting to leap frog Ballyhale Shamrocks (3) in Callan and James Stephens (2) attempting to do likewise over Danesfort (3) in Kilmanagh. It all makes for an intriguing evening’s hurling.

Michael Lyng Motors IHL – Group A

Glenmore (6) v Fenians (2) – Pairc Sheamuis Stiophan

Graigue Ballycallan (4) v Tullogher Rosbercon  (3) – Hugginstown

Dunnamaggin (3) v Tullaroan (6) – Palmerstown

Glenmore (6) and Tullaroan (6) are in poll positions in this group and both can secure quarter-final positions with wins or draws on Wednesday evening. Graigue Ballycallan (4) could make it to the top two with a win over Tullogher Rosbercon (and a Fenians win over Glenmore). Dunnamaggin (3), Tullogher Rosbercon (3) and Fenians (2) could all push themselves out of relegation zone with wins on Wednesday evening depending on results elsewhere. All to play for in this group.

Michael Lyng Motors IHL – Group B

St Lachtains (2) v Mooncoin (1) – Danesfort

Thomastown (6) v Lisdowney (4) – St Johns Park

St Patricks (5) v Young Irelands (6) – Canon Kearns Park – POSTPONED TO THURSDAY NIGHT 24th AUGUST

The only certainty in this group is that St Lachtains (2) and Mooncoin (1), who meet in Danesfort, will end up in the bottom two positions in the table. Both Lisdowney (4) and St Patricks (5) will hope to leapfrog their respective oppositions Thomastown (6) and Young Irelands (6) for the automatic quarter-final places. These should be two cracking encounters as there is little between any of the four teams.
