Bord na nÓg update – Week 21

By Mary Morgan Mon 5th Aug

Limerick was the opposition on Saturday morning for the U-15 Amber squad in a game that was played at ferocity which have fitted in very nicely with the previous weeks fare in Croke Park. Limerick raced into the lead as Kilkenny failed to score until the 9th minute. Harry Shine & Danny Glennon got amongst the scores as Kilkenny someone got to the short whistle level at 2-7 a piece thanks to some excellent goalkeeping from Alan Dunphy.

The second half was again at a ding dong affair  with Gearoid Dunne popping points but it was largely the introduction of Ted Dunne that swung the game in the young cats way as the Young Irelands attacker pilfered 2-2 to help chisel out a 4-15 to 5-15 win.

The Kilkenny U-15 Black squad took on Westmeath at a well appointed Johnstown on Friday evening. The visitors largely had the say in the opening exchanges and plundered two goals from their attacking exploits before Thomas Sharkey settled the young Kilkenny men with a point followed by similar scores from Gavin Flynn, Sean Keenan & Cian Doheny. A goal from Joe Healy put them in the box seat as the lead at half time was 1-9 to 2-0.

Kilkenny brought on fresh legs from the bench as the half wore on with Mikey Raggett goaling, whilst Jamie Morrissey & James Walsh helped themselves to points in what was a largely entertaining game where Billy Garrett made a couple of fine saves as Kilkenny held on for a 5-17 to 4-6 win. Next up is Tipp in the tournament qualifier on Saturday.
