Carey points Young Irelands to victory

Young Irelands 0-14 0-13 Dicksboro

In a tough dogged Duggan Steel U-15 Roinn A League Final at an overcast Clara, Young Irelands made it consecutive league titles with a late burst of scores which saw Killian Carey in the 65th minute of injury time land the pressure free.

To be honest there was never much between the sides and an injury to Sean Fitzpatrick of Young Irelands early in the second half seemed to have given the ‘Boro men the upper hand.

Padraig Naddy got the winners off to a flying start before Carey added one from a close range free. Then Harry Shine started to have a save on proceedings to fire over two points in quick succession prior to himself & Carey swapping a point piece from placed balls. Carey had the striped men back in front at the end of the 1st quarter to leave it 0-4 to 0-3.

Shine was proving to be a handful and duly landed a fine point after Sean Keenan put him into space and after a searing solo run he pointed. Patrick Langton and Evan Murphy swapped scores but Shine & Carey had the last day of the half to leave it tied at 0-6 each.

The game was again tied soon after at 0-8 each when a hat trick of Dicksboro points seemed to be decisive with Shine, Kyle Maher & Matt Kelleher all pointing with Young Irelands sole response being a converted free from Carey before Shine added two further scores.

Naddy & Carey brought Young Irelands back into the game with fine points but Shine seemed to have settled matters with a point as the game entered lost time.

It was during this period the men from Gowran were not to be denied as a hat trick of Carey points saw them across the line in what was an enthralling contest.
