Graignamanagh 2-19 Slieverue 0-17 (Graignamnagh PRO Jim Whelan)

Graignamanagh are the new Iverk Produce Junior ‘D’ County Champions after a good win over their southern rivals Slieverue.  The Thomastown venue was in its usual pristine condition as both teams gave their all in their search for county final glory.  Slieverue started strong and were guilty of some scoreable chances before Seamus Kavanagh scored the opening goal for the Graig men.

Slieverue responded well and got the next 2 points from their placed ball expert Joe O’Brien.  The Barrow boys struck for green again when nippy corner forward Dylan Cahill struck for a rasper from 10 yards out, this put Graignamanagh 6 points up after 20 mins of the first half.

It was a lead they were never to surrender and they went in at half-time with a 7 pt lead 2-8 0-7.  Veteran Eddie Walsh was the tormenter in chief of the Slievrue defence he was ably assisted by another hurling veteran Cathal Dunne who struck 3 points from play in the second half.

The Slieverue men did not throw in the towel and they gave their utmost to try and close the gap.  Lively corner forward Conor Wall threw over 3 nice points in the second period, but try as they might,t he deep south men could not close the gap on the green and white hoops of Graignamanagh.

Both teams can be very proud of their efforts in the search for glory.  The newly formed junior co board are to be congratulated on their presentation of the county final day with linesmen, umpires, match programme and scoreboard in operation the whole occasion a great joy for the big crowd who were present.
