The first of the county’s Health and Wellness evenings took place in St Martins/Muckalee GFC on Monday 16th of January. There was a great turnout, with over 110 people in attendance.
The Gardaí gave a presentation on drug awareness and Sgt Peter McConnon, Crime Prevention Officer, Inspector Paul Donohoe and Inspector Alma Moore all spoke about the issue of drugs. This was followed by Conor Harris, a footballer from Kildare, who gave a very frank and honest account of his struggles with drugs and, who at 23, is in recovery for almost 4 years.
There are four more talks scheduled for January with more dates being organised for February. Some clubs will be taking up a collection on the night for charities including The Carlow and Kilkenny Samaritans.
