Kilkenny GAA is saddened to learn of the passing of two great former Kilkenny GAA referees, Richard (Dick) Dowling and Derry (Dermot) Noonan.
Dick and Derry served as referees for Kilkenny in the 1960’s and 1970’s and, between them, refereed upwards of 20 County Finals. Both men were highly regarded and respected both on and off the field.
Dick, a native of Glenmore and father of referee Richard Dowling, won an All-Ireland Colleges Final with St Kieran’s College in 1957.
Derry, a native of Kilmoganny, was an All-Ireland Junior Hurling winner with Kildare in 1962.
Kilkenny GAA extends its sympathies to the Dowling and Noonan families.
