2025 Country Style Foods Junior D Hurling Final
Erin’s Own, Castlecomer 0-23; Mooncoin 2-11
Erin’s Own completed a league and championship Junior D double with a fully merited six points victory over Mooncoin at UPMC Nowlan Park on Sunday 24/8/2025.
Anchored by former county underage star Michael Murphy, the Comer men were three points clear at the interval, always controlled the second half, and a resilient display gave them ultimate success.
Comer outscored the Southern side 23 scores to 13 with Murphy contributing 0-16, which included four points from play.
In the opening half 0-10 of the 0-11 scored by Erin’s Own came from the undoubted star-man Murphy from seven frees, a “65” and 0-2 from play. Jake Connery with a 30th minute point was the only other Comer scorer.
For Mooncoin, a Lee Treacy goal midway through the half, that made the score 1-4 to 0-5, put Mooncoin in the lead and Darragh Murphy followed with a point two minutes later. They would not lead again however as, by the interval, Erin’s Own were three points clear.
Half time Erin’s Own 0-11; Mooncoin 1-5
While Mooncoin got the scoring going again in the 3rd minute of the new half through Aidan Carroll, a free in reply from Michael Murphy along with a Robert Coogan point from play, left Castlecomer 0-13 to 1-6 ahead.
By the 21st minute, when a Billy Delahunty point reduced the margin to five points, 1-10 to 0-8, there was still a glimmer of hope for Mooncoin.
But four successive Castlecomer points killed any comeback hopes. These came from a Michael Murphy free, two scores from Robert Coogan, and a 27th minute point from Liam Wallace. Erin’s Own now led 0-22 to 1-10.
Darragh Murphy pointed a free in the 30th minute which Ray Wall added to with a Mooncoin goal from a penalty, to bring respectability to the scoreline.
Michael Murphy had started the scoring, and it was fitting that he would end it also with a 64th minute pointed free, leaving Erin’s Own victors on a score of 0-23 to 2-11.

2025 JJ Kavanagh Junior E Hurling Final
Young Irelands 2-13; Dunnamaggin 1-15
The Young Irelands of Gowran Junior F winning team of 2024, became this years Junior E winners with this back-to-back success at UPMC Nowlan Park, with a dramatic ‘at the death’ victory in this 2025 E Final.
All the excitement in this contest was provided in the closing stages, and particularly the additional minutes added by referee Gavin Quilty.
Following an eight-minute scoreless spell, Sean Kehoe put Young Irelands of Gowran 1-11 to 0-11 ahead with a fine point from the new stand side on 51 minutes, 1-11 to 0-11.
Bill McCormack (Dunnamaggin) and Sean Kehoe (YI) traded points from frees in the following two minutes.
McCormack from another free, followed by a goal after a solo through the YI defence by Dunnamaggin’s centre forward Dylan Carroll in the 58th minute, had the South Kilkenny side a point in front, 1-13 to 1-12.
Ciaran Byrne pointed to equalise for Gowran on the 60th minute.
Then the almost five added minutes of mayhem. Cathal Buckley got a lovely Dunnamaggin point from midfield, followed by a Bill McCormack score, and ‘Dunna were now two points ahead, 1-15 to 1-13. We were already over the time by a couple of minutes.
But Young Irelands were not finished, and incredibly Paul Kehoe blasted to the Dunnamaggin net and victory went to the Gowran men, 2-13 to 1-15.
What went before had been honest but tame enough fare. Young Irelands led 1-6 to 0-7 at the interval, their goal scored also by Paul Kehoe midway through the half. A free by the same player had YI four points clear in 22 minutes but three late ‘Dunna first half points, two by Bill McCormack and the other by Cathal Buckley, had Dunnamaggin 0-7 to 1-5 ahead on 28 minutes, 0-7 to 1-5. Kehoe (YI) closed out the first half scoring from a free.
The second half sequence began with three unanswered Young Ireland points in the opening seven minutes, a Paul Kehoe score from midfield, Ciaran Byrne from play, and a Sean Kehoe free, 1-9 to 0-7.
The Junior Board had two American lady tourists watching their first ever hurling game in the Ard Chomhairle” seating area, and up to this point they had seen just honest endeavour, but the final stages here will have given them a lasting memory to take home.
Whilst the crowds were not at the level of the 1997 and 2002 Kilkenny Senior hurling finals between the same opponents, the participants, and supporters of both sides, gave as much in those closing minutes as any contest that went before.
For the winners Paul Kehoe with those goals sealed the contest. Others to impress were David Langton, Robin Carey, Sean Kehoe, David Holland, and Ciaran Byrne.
Dunnamaggin died with their boots on, as they often say after such close encounters. Mark Dowling, Colin Herity, Billy McCormack, Tommy Maher, Cathal Buckley, and Dylan Carroll were amongst their strongest warriors.

2025 JJ Kavanagh Junior F Hurling Final
Tullogher Rosbercon 3-15; Mullinavat 1-18
Superior scoring power, particularly in the second half, gave Tullogher Rosbercon victory over Mullinavat in Saturday’s Junior F County Final at UPMC Nowlan Park.
The Mullinavat lads were looking good at the interval of this final, 1-10 to 1-8 ahead, having got a goal three minutes into injury time. This is considered to be a great time to raise a green flag, but just like Cork in the 2025 All Ireland Senior Hurling Final last month, that was not what happened here.
Tullogher Rosbercon added 2-7 to Mullinavat’s 0-8 in the second period, and more importantly the Vegas lads only recorded a single point from play after the interval.
This Tullogher Rosbercon Junior F team had narrowly lost the league final to St Lachtain’s, and more than made amends on this occasion.
The defeat was further Junior F heartbreak for Mullinavat, a fourth successive final defeat at this grade, having previously lost to Conahy Shamrocks (2022), Windgap (2023) and Young Ireland’s (2024). ‘Close, but no cigar’ again here!
Tullogher Rosbercon made the better start with two early points from Dean Kinsella and a Richie Aylward free.
Stephen Law opened the Vegas account with a fourth minute free, but Richie Aylward got a TR goal two minutes later, 1-2 to 0-1.
Mullinavat eventually settled and by the 16th minute had registered six unanswered points.
A sequence of a Stephen Law free, a Jake Morrissey point, Law with a 100-metre free, Morrissey again, a Darren Kenneally point and then a third Morrissey score.
Points from Dean Kinsella and Richie Aylward levelled affairs, 1-4 to 0-7.
Luke Byrne Doyle put Mullinavat ahead but two pointed scores from placed balls by Richie Aylward sandwiched a Dean Kinsella point. TR now led 1-7 to 0-8.
Stephen Law (M) and Billy Ryan (TR) exchanged scores on the half hour.
Luke Byrne Doyle pointed for Mullinavat on 32 minutes and then Billy Delahunty got the already mentioned goal from close in after a Pat Mulhearne catch.
Half Time Mullinavat 1-10; Tullogher Rosbercon 1-8.
A Tullogher goal right after the interval by Dean Kinsella signalled a momentum switch to this game.
Luke Byrne Doyle (M) and Billy Ryan (TR) swopped points in the next few minutes, 2-9 to 1-11.
Pointed frees by Law on 37 and 39 minutes had Mullinavat back in front.
In the next seven minutes Tullogher Rosbercon added 1-3 to move five points clear.
Marc Lawlor was the goal-scorer after a nice lay-off from a colleague.
A Stephen Law free reduced the margin on 47 minutes, but in the next five minutes Richard Aylward and Billy Ryan from midfield left TR six clear, 3-14 to 1-14 by the 48th minute.
To their credit Mullinavat did not panic and four Stephen Law frees in the closing twelve minutes left just two points in it 1-18 to 3-14.
Billy Ryan made it a three-point deficit with a score from distance in the 61st minute, and, while the Vegas lads had late half chances, the Tullogher Rosbercon lads held on for victory.
SCORERS:
Tullogher Rosbercon:
Richie Aylward (1-5, 3 frees), Dean Kinsella (1-3), Billy Ryan (0-6, 2 frees), Marc Lawlor (1-0), Padraig Dooley (0-1).
