Minor
Graignamanagh 3-20 Ballinkillen 0-15

A keener eye for taking their scores gave Graignamangh the advantage over Ballinkillen in a keenly contested Roinn C league match on Monday evening.
An early goal from Fintan Gahan sent Graignamanagh into a lead which they managed to maintain to the half time break when the scoreline read Graignamangh 1-08 Ballinkillen 0-08.
Second half goals from Steven Kinsella and Conor Byrne eventually stretched Graig’s advantage, although Ballinkillen were always competitive.
A number of very well taken points from both sides throughout the second half kept both sets of spectators well entertained.
Ballinkillen will be disappointed with the number of wides they struck, but showed a good knack of finding the right man to shoot and a little more match practice will surely rectify that issue.
Final score at the end of an excellent evenings hurling was Graignamanagh 3-20 Ballinkillen 0-15

Glenmore vs Fenians u17. At a well attended Páirc na Ratha ón Monday 5th July Fenians raced into a 3 point lead before Glenmore got their first score, a point. It was then 4 to 1 and 5 to 2 before Glenmore got a goal to level matters. We then played our best hurling for the rest of the half and were leading by 6 coming up to the break when Johnstown got a goal to leave us 2-9 to 1-9 at half time. The second half was a real thriller with fantastic hurling on both sides and with 6 points apiece scored Glenmore were hanging on with time almost up. Fenians then struck for a goal and 2 points in the last 60 seconds to inflict the cruellest of defeats on Glenmore on a final score of 2-17 to2-15. Great credit to both teams on such a superb match.

U-15
James Stephens Red 1-11
Young Irelands 0-10

On a warm, muggy Tuesday evening in Gowran, Round 4 of the U15 A Hurling League saw Young Irelands host James Stephens’ Red Team.

The Village opened the scoring with a point from mid-fielder Sean Bergin.  Young Irelands responded with a point from Kieran Timmins. Both teams had to work hard and scores were hard to come by with Young Irelands scoring six wides before the first water break. James Stephens surged forward with a goal and a point from their number 12, Jacob Breslin. The Gowran side managed to add two  more points to their tally before the water break.
The second quarter was as tight an affair as the previous, Gowran being taunted by another four wides while the Village players managed to keep the ball between the posts. Noah Manogue added three more points for James Stephens.  However the Young Ireland players were dogged in their play and two points from play from Thomas Langton and two points from frees from Jim Conlon meant only a goal seperated the sides at half time; Young Irelands 0-7, James Stephens Red 1-7.
The second half was a frantic, fast and frenzied affair with both sides finding it difficult to get scores. James Stephens’ goalie; Billy O’Sullivan saved numerous attempts on his goal, but the defense was stalwart. Apoint from Cian Phelan and another from a free brought Young Irelands within a point of the Village. Noah Manogue extended their lead with a point from a free, before Billy O’Keeffe knocked over a point to briong kit back to a 1 point advantage at the final water break. The James Stephens’ defense was impenetrable; Conor McEvoy was determined not to let the Red Army through and the Village pushed ahead on the scoreboard with points from Noah Manogue and Ryan Burke to give them a 4 point lead at the final whistle.

Sun was shining in Clara Wednesday evening for the clash of St. Patricks vs Clara in the next match of the league.
Both teams appeared confident as they warmed up beforehand and as the ball was thrown in, there was high expectations from the crowd that a spectacular display of hurling was to follow.
St Patricks were going in favourites having not lost a league match so far this season. The conditions were perfect as the game began on what can only be described as an immaculately manicured pitch.
Ballyragget started strong putting over several unanswered points until Clara found their feet and reacted with a few points of their own followed by a spectacular goal. St Patricks did not panic and instead dug deep and tipped over several points in retaliation, resulting in a six-point lead at the water break.
The trend continued after the break with St Patrick tipping over regular points and Clara only able to add two more to their tally before the half time whistle blew leaving the score at 1-04 to 18 points giving St Patricks an 11-point lead.
The second half started strong for Ballyragget- 2 goals meant things were beginning to slip away from Clara’s grip. However, Clara continued strong and never gave up or slowed down, their determination was commendable, but they just could not compete with Ballyraggets forwards.
They added another goal and three points to their tally by the end, but it was no match to St Patricks who notched up an impressive 3 goals and 8 points in the second half leaving the final score at 2-07 to 3-26.

An impressive display of hurling from both teams. Clara now positioned 3rd in the league while Ballyragget secured top spot with three out of three wins so far this season. Good luck to both teams as they continue their league campaign.

Mount Leinster Rangers U15’s put in a great performance to overcome Graignamanagh in Graignamanagh on a sunny Wednesday evening. Steven Kinsella and Colin Bolger getting scores for the Graignamanagh side while for the Rangers boys Kyle Nolan and Fionn O’Brien kept the score board ticking over to see out the win for MLR.
U-13
U13  Roinn A1 Hurling League Round 4
YOung Irelands v Rower Inistioge in Gowran on Friday 10th July at 7.30pm.
An outstanding individual performance from Aidan Keating inspired Young Irelands to their second straight victory in the U-13 A1 Hurling League against Rower-Inistioge in Gowran on Friday night.
Keating scored 1-5 – 1-3 from play – as Gowran built up a sizeable lead at half-time (2-5 to 0-3), with Aidan Keating’s goal coming in the 9th minute, while a late rally of 1-3 in the final 5 minutes of the first-half proved highly significant for Gowran.
Midfielder for Gowran, Kieran Carter, pointed superbly from play in the 26th minute, while Aidan Keating and Conor Carroll added points to conclude the scoring for the half.  But the undoubted highlight came in between those sequence of points.  Conor Carroll brilliantly pulled an unstoppable volley that flew past the goalkeeper, after great work from the full-forward line in the build up to the goal.  It was a sensational goal that produced a moment of brilliance and helped gain establish control.  A special mention must be made at this point for the two goalkeepers who pulled off great saves throughout the game – Sam Kelly for Rower Inistioge and Dylan Brennan for Gowran.
Rower Inistioge scores came from three frees throughout the first half well pointed by their centre forward PJ Mackey.
Although the second-half saw scores restricted to a premium for Young Irelands (0-2 points scored by Gowran in the second half), they remained in control playing into the wind.    Rower Inistioge scored 1-4 from play in the second half – the goal superby scored by centre forward PJ Mackey and two further point added by Sean Doyle and Ned Spellman concluded the scoring for Rower Inistioge to bring their final tally to 1-7 at full time.
Aidan Keating scored another superb point from play to conclude the Young Irelands scoring.
Other players for Rower Inistioge in the defence who played well were Oisin Smithman O Brien, Paul Kirwan and Ben Chapman.
Galmoy/Windgap 5-7 3-6 Glenmore

Galmoy/Windgap edged most of the scores . Glenmore on a couple of occasions brought the score level but tiring bodies in last quarter brought two goals from windgap which ended the contest.
If both teams played again with full squads think Glenmore would edge it.

Half- time score St Patricks: 1-2 Tullogher/Rosbercon: 3-7
Full time score: St Patricks: 2-6 Tullogher/Rosbercon 8-8
A dull and misty evening ascended on Ballyragget for the next match of the league for both teams. Tullogher/Rosbercon made the long trip to North Kilkenny but made the journey worth their while. Starting off strong Tullogher/Rosbercon took an early lead with two outstanding goals followed by three points to St Patricks two points heading into the water break.
The momentum continued in Tullogher/Rosbercon favour after the water break scoring a further goal and four points to Ballyraggets’ goal leaving the half time score 3-7 to 1-2.
St. Patricks efforts were evident throughout, they fought hard, never gave up, but goal chances eluded them, point scoring opportunities went wide and several scoring chances just did not go their way- partly caused by the pressure put on them from an exceptionally strong Tullogher/Rosbercon side, with dull wet and misty atmosphere adding to St Patricks woes.
Tullogher/Rosbercon continued to dominate in the second half scoring and unbelievable 5 goals to St Patricks 1 goal and 4 points, leaving the final score of 8-8 to 2-6.

Disappointing night for St. Patricks but not to be disheartened by their stellar performance and attitude, Tullogher/Rosbercon were just stronger, making an abundance of scoring opportunities that they finished with style and panache. Both teams showed great promise which holds great hope for further matches in the league and championship where they will hopefully meet again.
