Erin’s Own (Castlecomer) 0-20; Emeralds (Urlingford) 0-16
A twenty-minute spell from the 33rd to the 53rd minute when Erins Own outscored Emeralds 0-9 to 0-0, set the path for Castlecomer to clinch a second Under 21 B hurling title in five years.
The Comer boys were B winners in 2021, and after three years in Roinn A, they were regraded this year, but will return to join the top Under 21 clubs for 2026.
Emeralds were the better side in the opening half, but only led by a point at the interval, 0-9 to 0-8.
In fact, it was not until the 35th minute that the winners recorded their first score from play, all the first half points coming from placed balls by man of the match Michael Brennan.
Emeralds started the second half in dominant fashion with early points by Killian Doyle (two) and a Darragh Qually free. They missed a couple of subsequent chances as well, before Erin’s Own had their unanswered nine-point sequence that turned this contest.
James Coogan (2), Michael Brennan (2 frees), Eoin Brennan (2), James Coogan (2), and a 100-metre point from centre back Eoghan Moore, helped the winners gain control of this contest.
Emeralds did outscore Erin’s Own by a point from here to the finish, they also had a few late half chances for goals, but Erin’s Own were deserving victors.
The winners had strong defensive performances from Mark Kennedy, Bobby Brennan, Eoghan Moore and Alec Kerr. James Coogan, Eoin Brennan and ace free taker Michael Brennan were stars in the forward division.
For Emeralds, Tomas Cussen, Kieran Cleere, county senior panelist Killian Doyle and Darragh Queally were amongst their strongest performers on the day.
