Graignamanagh 5-17 Ballyhale Shamrocks 1-10
A lovely evening in Dr Tierney Park provided the backdrop for an entertaining game between Graignamanagh and Ballyhale Shamrocks in this Roinn C league match on Monday last. A fast start saw Fintan Gahan goal for the hosts in the first minute, followed by a pair of pointed frees from Steven Kinsella. From this point Ballyhale steadied themselves and points from John Fitzgerald, Niall Shortall and Jack Cody tightened up the score. Some fine saves from Colin Bolger in the Graig goal kept Ballyhale at bay as the Shamrocks pushed hard in the second quarter. Graig finished the half stronger and a goal and three points from Conor Hoolan saw them into a half time lead of 2-08 to 0-04.

Goals early in the second half for Fintan Gahan and Colin Hamilton gave Graig a cushion and with Ivan Bolger and Abhainn Flood marshalling their defence Ballyhale were unable to close the gap. Points from Conor Byrne and Cian O Shea for Graig were countered by points from Niall Shortall, John Fitzgerald, Jack Holden and Jack Cody for Ballyhale as both sides showed a keen eye for taking their scores. With minutes to go Brian Wilson smashed a close range effort to the net to leave a final score of Graignamanagh 5-17 Ballyhale Shamrocks 1-10
Glenmore 1-18Galmoy/Windgap 0-12
Galmoy/Windgap made the long journey to Páirc Na Ratha tonight short four first team players and despite their best efforts had to give best to a strong Glenmore outfit. The hosts were backboned by Ciarán Verekerand the impressive Colm Roche, who both lined out for the victorious Kilkenny Celtic Challenge team on Saturday last. Indeed the spine of the Glenmore team were very solid throughout. Galmoy/Windgap did their best all through with Michael Freaney, Colman Moloney and Billy Power doing well and Conor Doyle trying hard up front.
Glenmore lead 0-9 to 0-6 after a finely balanced first half. Colm Roche hit eight of those first half Glenmore points, three from play, and gave an impeccable display of freetaking over the hour. Daniel Hanrahan and wing back James Purcell each struck the target twice during that opening half for the visitors.
Conor Doyle closed the gap to two points with a 33rdminute free but Glenmore then hit a purple patch with 1-5 in quick succession. Roche hit 0-4 with CathalSheehan also adding a minor before Patrick O Connor Forristal hit the game’s only goal in the 44th minute,1-14 to 0-7.Conor Doyle converted five last quarter frees but Glenmore were always able to reply as they took a deserved victory on this occasion.

Last Thursday evening, in a sweltering Gowran a strong Comer side dominated this U15 game. Conor Brophey had three points to his name while Jake Connery added four points to his before the half time whistle; giving the Castlecomer boys a lead of 2-7 to Young Irelands’ 1-3.
The Erins Own team continued to control the play in the second half, goals by Jake Connery and Cathal Dunnery sounded the death-knell for the Gowran side. Despite a goal from Ben Drennan and a late point from Thomas Langton, the Comer side were resounding winners as the sun set in the west; casting a red glow over the pitches of Castle Ellis.
Blustery evening in the super bowl in Leighlinbridge. Barrow Rangers got off to a strong start with goals from Niall Carpenter. Strong midfield performances from Kaylem Hughes and Sean Hanlon helped Barrow Rangers forwards secure a 6-6 to 0-2 lead at half time. Naoimh Bhride came out strong in the second half scoring 3 quick goals. The Barrow Rangers defence tightened up led by Odhran O’Keeffe and Patrick Purcell and Barrow Rangers went on to win by 9-12 to 3-2.

Carlow Town/Setanta 3-7
This U15 Roinn C game was postponed until Sunday evening as Carlow Town/Setanta contested an overdue 2020 County Final. But boy, was it worth the wait! In glorious Gowran, as the sun set over the corn fields, and the mercury was still up in the twenties, the hotly contested game kept spectators at the edge of their seats.
Gowran got off to a good start with a point from Tadhg Ahern and a superbly flicked goal from Philip Middleton. Carlow, maybe a little jet-lagged from their journey down, began to up their game and three points from Sean Coakley and Dylan McGrath gave a score of 1-1 to 0-3 at the first water break.
Three goals from the Carlow side gave them a substantial lead coming into the half time break. A goal from Ben Drennan gave a half time score of Young Irelands 2-2, Carlow Town/Setanta 3-5.
The second half saw Young Irelands surge ahead with points from Ben Drennan, Tadhg Ahern and the hard working Billy O’Keeffe. A scramble in front of the Carlow goal involving Tadhg ahern, Philip Middleton and an array of Carlow backs saw the third goal of the game for Gowran. A draw game with minutes on the clock! 3-7 to 3-7. Sinew and nerve was needed! A free taken by the persistent Tadhg Ahern put Young Irelands ahead by the most dangerous of margins. Heat took its toll, beads of sweat rolled down from the heated helmets and the lactic acid began to make the legs heavy. In the final minute of play, from the stand sideline, the on-target Ben Drennan ensured home victory with a well taken point. The Carlow Team had sights on the Gowran goal, and keeper Mikey Keating was threatened, but the formidable full back; Richard Nolan was unstoppable as he escorted the ball safely out of the danger zone.
A great game by all accounts with excellent performances on both sides.
Carlow’s defence of Brandon O’Toole, Eoin Ryan and Ronan O’Sullivan worked tirelessly.
Tristan Nolan, BillyO’Keeffe and Sam Brennan were instrumental in Young Irelands’ victory.
Galmoy/Windgap 3-22Rower Inistioge 1-10
The Galmoy/Windgap U-15s had a convincing win on Wednesday against The Rower Inistioge in Windgap. ConorDoyle took the scoring honours again with a final total of 1-15,
U-13
Young Irelands Gowran played Graigue Ballycallan on Monday evening to compete in the Duggan Steel U13 Roinn A1 Hurling League.
Graigue Ballycallan got off to a great start with a goal in the opening minutes by centre forward Michael Tynan. Young Irelands settled into the game quickly and at the first water break it was Gowran 2-5 to Graigue Ballycallan 1-1 – Josef Walsh and Aidan Keating scored the goals for Gowran, while Tomas Carroll and Aidan Keating scored Young Irelands points.
Graigue Ballycallan fought hard in the second quarter but could only manage two points from centre field player Cormac Neary. One goal and six points separated the teams at half time – Gowran 2-9 to Graigue Ballycallan 1-3 (Aidan Keating and Kieran Carter scored Gowran’s four points).
Graigue Ballycallan started strong again in the second half, with one goal and two points. The goal came from a ground strike by Michael Tynan and Cormac Neary scored the two points from placed balls. Young Irelands took over the scoring with three further goals from Josef Walsh and David Brennan. Impressive centre back for Young Irelands, Kealan Barcoe, worked the ball up the field to take a point, while Kieran Carter and Donnacha Convery added points.
The final score was Young Irelands 5-12, Graigue Ballycallan 3-7.
Commendable in defence for Young Irelands were Kieran Carter, Conor Brennan and Kealan Barcoe. Oran Hoyne and Will Coady played with great skill and defended with great determination for Graigue Ballycallan.
Carrickshock vs Glenmore July 30th.
Both teams started brightly with Glenmore racing into 1-2 to 0-00 lead. Battles were fought in midfield and both sides contested the ball vigorously in the first half.
Some decent skill from carrickshock no.13 seen him score couple quick goals which carrickshock lead at the break 5-5 to 2-7.
The second half promised much but it hadn’t same energy . carrickshock got on top at water break when Glenmore legs tired. A neutral would have enjoyed the game . Glenmore forwards didn’t hunt ball as first half and carrickshock upped there workrate and they had a comfortable last ten minutes. Overall a person would have been impressed with character of both sides.
Very good scores and good striking .
