Dunnamaggin 1-20 Mullinavat 1-14
Dunnamaggin are 2023 County Junior A League winners, after a deserved six point victory over Southern neighbours Mullinavat in Sunday evening’s final at MW HIRE, Dunmore. This was a high level game, played in blustery conditions, where a mainly cross field wind made scoring difficult at times.
Ex County Senior, Seaghan O’ Neill recorded 1-9 of the winners total, all bar one from frees, with scores from all over the field. Peter Kenneally, Conor Hoban and Anthony Kearney were others who featured prominently for Dunnamaggin and, as is their tradition, they were tight in defence, meaning there was very little close in scoring options for Mullinavat.
The Vegas boys were featuring players who contributed to their retention of the County Senior Football title just 48 hours previously, and this fixture probably came too soon. Scores were “tit for tat” in the early stages, 0-6 each after 20 minutes. A run of four unanswered points from Aaron Moore, along with three O’Neill frees left Dunna’ 0-10 to 0-6 clear. They actually looked like moving well clear, but by the interval the margin was down to a single score, thanks to two long range Conor Duggan points, and a close in free by Mikey Jones (0-9 to 0-10).
Conor Hoban opened the Dunnamaggin second half account, before we had a goal for either side, in a one minute spell, Conor Walsh for Mullinavat, Seaghan O’Neill for Dunnamaggin (1-11 to 1-9). Game on at this stage, with some hard challenges, hard hurling, and hard tussling in the midfield areas. Dunnamaggin swept clear with a run of four points from Kenneally, Anthony Kearney with an excellent catch, swivel and score, an O’Neill (free) and another fine Kenneally point (1-15 to 1-9). From here to the finish both sides added five further points each, but Dunnamaggin were the better team, their defending was excellent throughout, and they got to the finish line well in control of proceedings.

James Stephens 2-19 Bennettsbridge 1-9
James Stephens won the JJ Kavanagh County Junior B Hurling League, with a comfortable thirteen point victory over Bennettsbridge at MW Hire Dunmore on Sunday afternoon last.
Whilst Bennettsbridge opened the scoring in the second minute with a John Doyle point, this was the only time in the afternoon that the City side were headed. Oisin Bateman opened the Village account, and corner forward Sean Casey was doing real damage, knocking over four of the games next five points from play. By the interval James Stephens led 1-10 to 0-6, Casey was also the Village goal scorer, batting home a cross field ball from Stephen Manogue.
Stephen Manogue also opened the second half scoring with a pointed free for the Village boys, to go eight points clear in the third minute of the new half. Bennettsbridge were still competitive, and when corner forward Bill Nolan got an early second half goal, a comeback looked possible (1-6 to 1-11). James Stephens got three of the next four scores however, all minors, with an Oisin Bateman break and point from midfield, this being the score of the game. The Village were now 1-14 to 0-8 clear, and on the way to victory. By the finish they had added a further 1-5 as against two pointed Gearoid Kent frees, for a deserved Junior B league final victory.

Graigue Ballycallan won the Junior D League with a convincing eight point victory over James Stephens at MW Hire, Dunmore on Friday last. The Kilmanagh outfit won the “E” championship last year, and on this showing will also be a force in the D grade this season.
